Villa managed to hold on for the victory and went equal on points with leaders Midtjylland at the summit of the group rankings. The Birmingham club made hard work of that in the final stages.

GOAL! Aston Villa 2-1 Young Boys (Joël Monteiro 90+1)

Young Boys earned a hope through Monteiro but had just stoppage time to find an equaliser!

Glasgow Side Wins 3-1

A famous and valuable win for the Scottish team. Although they went 1-0 down, Celtic fought back with goals from the Korean forward, the Japanese midfielder and Benjamin Nygren.

Game Developments

Aston Villa, at the same time, retained a 2-0 lead over Young Boys with roughly 300 seconds left at their home ground.

Malen's second goal there triggered intense reactions in the visitors' section, with Young Boys supporters clashing with police. Scuffles broke out and objects thrown at both the officers and toward the field, with the player being hit on the head by a plastic cup.

Historical Context

Forest vs Malmö and historical connections. The two clubs have a historical link, also facing each other in Forest's previous European adventure in the mid-90s European competition, but it is the European Cup final decades past that links these clubs, with the groundbreaking transfer Trevor Francis scoring the winner of a largely forgettable match to clinch eternal glory for the Forest supporters.

"The legendary management duo, grey-sweatered and anonymous amid all the festivities and cheers, stood for a moment on a bench serenely viewing the revelry," wrote the match reporter. This represented an outstanding achievement that it is unlikely to be replicated – from second tier to European stage in three seasons."

Worth mentioning to pause a little on Malmö, who became the pioneering and only Swedish club to make the championship match under British coach Houghton.

This match is a very different to that pinnacle, closer perhaps to the earlier European encounter between Forest and Malmö in 1995-96. Forest are full of confidence after thrashing Liverpool at the famous ground on Saturday, while Malmö haven't played officially since early November following the conclusion of their domestic campaign. The general expectation is on the home team tonight.

Additional games on offer in this live coverage. The Scottish side have already been beaten by a Portuguese opponent this season. Rangers are at the foot of the competition table at the half-way stage of the league phase with exactly zero. They badly want a victory if they are to have any hope of making a comeback for a knockout position.

Coverage will persist with all nine of the 8pm kick-offs and provide the most recent results from the earlier matches, including Aston Villa v Young Boys and Rotterdam vs Glasgow.
